Storyline:
There's a revolution underway in South America, but most of the world doesn't know it. Oliver Stone sets out on a road trip across five countries to explore the social and political movements as well as the mainstream media's misperception of South America while interviewing seven of its elected presidents. In casual conversations with Presidents Hugo Chavez (Venezuela), Evo Morales (Bolivia), Lula da Silva (Brazil), Cristina Kirchner (Argentina), as well as her husband and ex-President Nestor Kirchner, Fernando Lugo (Paraguay), Rafael Correa (Ecuador), and Raul Castro (Cuba), Stone gains unprecedented access and sheds new light upon the exciting transformations in the region.

Be prepared to have your view of the United States government and the United States media in this film. This movie makes clear how corporate-owned our politicians are. When there was a military coupe d'Etat in Venezuela, it was trumpted by the New York Times as the overthrow of evil dictator Hugo Chavez. However, 3 days later, the people of Venezuela overthrew the military and re-installed the democratically elected Hugo Chavez. The New York Times had egg all over their face and had to recant their propaganda. I was working for an Export company in Seattle when this Coupe d'etat and the ports were closed in Venezuela. It was surreal to hear years later about what really happened because the story was barely covered in the United States. This movie covers it all. When Hugo Chavez took control of the oil companies who were trying to destroy his presidency by wrecking the economy, he turned around the country completely. BIG OIL lost and the people of Veneuela won.

You've come to the right place. Oliver Stone always seems to break the mold when it comes to provocative insights into already controversial subjects. He did with the Vietnam War, JFK, the blood thirsty media in Natural Born Killers, and he's done it again with South of the Border. Yes, some critics have a point that this movie lacks an objective point of view. But is that really necessary when the mainstream media in the U.S. already gives us the other side of the story? Stone is our eyes into a world we rarely see. It's easier to paint anyone with interests that don't include the U.S. as evil and dastardly, but there has to be more to the story. And Stone shows us that with this documentary. The cohesiveness of the story is sound, due to Stone's other writer Tariq Ali. He provides a deep understanding of world politics and is pivotal in giving validity to this film. This film is important to see, as it highlights the great deal of misinformation that is plaguing our news media

Very interesting and well done. The comments on American media were apt and informative. It was refreshing to see Chavez and other South American leaders through a different lens.
